30 players under contract
The Vancouver Whitecaps have announced their end-of-the-season roster decisions on Thursday. The Whitecaps have exercised 2022 options for Theo Bair, Michael Baldisimo, Javain Brown, Cristian Dájome, David Egbo, Marcus Godinho, Cristián Gutiérrez, Thomas Hasal, Florian Jungwirth, and Brian White. A total of 30 players are now under contract for the 2022 season.
“Over the last couple of seasons, we have built a strong core with a priority on improving step-by-step and continuity,” Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster said in a club statement. “We are pleased to confirm the majority of our players will return, we will look to add players who will make the team better and explore loan opportunities for some of our younger players.”
Patrick Metcalfe and Jasser Khmiri will not return to the club next season. “We felt now is the right time for Patrick and Jasser to make the next steps in their career and continue their development at another club. We are thankful for their time and we wish both Pat and Jasser all the best,” Schuster said. Isaac Boehmer, Tosaint Ricketts, and Andy Rose are also out of contract but the club is in talks to renew the deals.
