Roster decisions made
With the club’s season concluded, Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy announced major roster decisions on Monday morning. Among the players to depart the club are defender Niko Hämäläinen, who was on loan and returns to Queens Park Rangers, goalkeeper Justin vom Steeg, and captain Jonathan dos Santos.
Dos Santos joined the LA Galaxy from Villarreal in 2018 and was the fourth most expensive player in club history. The Mexican appeared in 103 regular season matches for the Galaxy and tallied six goals and 12 assists. “We thank Jonathan for his contributions to the LA Galaxy,” LA Galaxy president Chris Klein said in a club statement. “In five seasons with the Galaxy, Jonathan was a key contributor and leader for us. We very much appreciate his work ethic, professionalism and passion during his time with our club and we wish him all the best.”

The Galaxy also declined the 2022 contract options of forwards Kai Koreniuk and Augustine Williams and defenders Danilo Acosta and Oniel Fisher. All four players are out of contract. The club also failed to exercise the 2022 goalkeeper Eric Lopez, midfielder Victor Vázquez and forward Ethan Zubak but remains in discussions with them for the 2022 season.
