Manchester United and Solskjaer agree contract termination – “Ole will always be a legend”

Club bosses want Zidane

It is now official. This morning (BT time), Manchester United released a statement that confirmed that head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stepped down from his managerial duties. “Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United, and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision,” a club statement read. “While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.”

The club further added: “Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.” The decision to go separate ways with Solskjaer resulted from a crisis meeting that took place from Saturday to Sunday night. Several sources suggested on Saturday night that Solskjaer was going to leave the club, but United did not confirm the news until Sunday morning. A replacement has not yet been confirmed, but Ralf Rangnick and Zinedine Zidane are candidates to take over.

Solskjaer took over in December 2018. The 48-year-old then guided the club to a second-place finish last season. But the difference to champion Manchester City was 12 points. The club then signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho. After matchday 4, the Red Devils were first but have since dropped to seventh in the standings.
