The top 15 at a glance
Five goals against Bermuda, 11 against the Cayman Islands, and seven against Aruba, Canada had plenty of opportunities to rack up the scoreboard in 2021. The Canadian men’s national team will likely finish the year with the most goals scored of any national team after having already scored 53 goals in just 18 games (as of November 15).
The 23 goals scored against pre-World Cup qualifying against minnows helped Canada finish ahead of Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Concacaf rivals USA. Most recently, Canada beat Panama 4-1 in a game that featured a brilliant goal by Alphonso Davies. The goal has helped Canada maintain a spot in the top three halfway through Concacaf World Cup qualifying. Canada is also the only undefeated team in the Octagonal. As it stands, Canada have booked a ticket for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, in what would be their first tournament participation since the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
Canada still has to face Mexico and the United States at home. The latter is also on the list, with 42 goals scored in 20 games. Like Canada, the US saw their goal tally increase thanks to big wins over Martinique (6-1) at the Gold Cup and against a depleted Trinidad & Tobago (7-0) side in a match played last January outside the FIFA window.

The United States and Canada, however, are not the only countries running up their goal tallies against smaller nations. Germany, who are second in the overall standings. Germany recently beat Liechtenstein, who were a man down for most of the match 9-0 and also faced Latvia (7-1) and Armenia (6-0 and 4-1) on their way to scoring 50 goals in just 16 games.
