121 updates
Transfermarkt.it has updated the market values of 121 Serie A players. Juventus are the big losers and have to accept a significant drop in terms of squad value. The biggest increases, meanwhile, were for players from Napoli and AC Milan, who remain unbeaten at the top of the table.

After their worst start to the season since 1961, Juventus have recovered in recent weeks, but they are still struggling with the aftermath of Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure and have finally lost their supremacy in Italy after their first year without the Serie A title since 2011. As a result, no less than eight players have to accept a drop in market value, causing the squad value to fall by €37.5 million to €602.9 million, now behind that of Borussia Dortmund (€603.9 million). To put things in perspective, at the beginning of the month the Black and Yellows were still around €85 million behind the Bianconeri.
Juventus drop behind BVB – The most valuable squads in the world
Matthijs de Ligt (-5 to €70 million), who, with the exception of the corona-related cut in early 2020, is downgraded for the first time in his career. “The Dutchman has arguably lost his regular spot in the national team and even at Juventus he has not been able to prove with consistency that he deserves to be the most valuable centre-back in the world. However, his improving form and still young age have saved him from a major devaluation,” Jatin Dietl, TM Area Manager Italy, explains the decision. Among the world’s most valuable central defenders, Rúben Dias and Marquinhos are now ahead of de Ligt at €75 million each.

Also down are Wojciech Szczesny (-10 to €15 million), who is no longer unquestioned after making game-changing mistakes and losing his status as the league’s most valuable goalkeeper, Arthur (-5 to €35 million), Dejan Kulusevski (-5 to €35 million) and Rodrigo Bentancur (-5 to €30 million).
Serie A market values: Osimhen with career high, Vlahovic & Tomori up
Napoli, on the other hand, are in absolute top form, having made a perfect start to the new season with seven wins from seven matches. One of the reasons for this is the excellent form of record signing Victor Osimhen, who arrived from LOSC Lille for €70 million in the summer of 2020.
“After problems due to injuries last season, Osimhen is now showing that his transfer fee was well justified. In addition to his seven goals in eight competitive matches, he is also taking on an important role when the opponent is in possession and is growing into a complete centre-forward,” Dietl says. The €10 million increase to now €60 million represents a new career high for the Nigerian, who left VfL Wolfsburg for RSC Charleroi for just €3.5 million in 2019.

Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic also caused a sensation at the start of the season. The 21-year-old Serb was already his club’s most valuable player with a market value of €40 million, and backed that up with seven goals in eight matches in 2021/22. “The huge interest in the summer, including from Inter and Atlético, showed that there is a high demand for players with Vlahovic’s qualities. The recently announced departure will again create a lot of buzz in the next transfer window,” Dietl is certain. Now worth €50 million, the striker is one of the ten most valuable players in the league.
Tomori, Chiesa & Co. – The most valuable Serie A players
Meanwhile, Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori has made the biggest jump in the league. The England international established himself in the Rossoneri’s defence on loan from Chelsea FC last season and was signed permanently for around €30 million in the summer. This year he was also given preference over captain Alessio Romagnoli (-5 to €20 million) by head coach Stefano Pioli – the market value is adjusted from €28 million to €40 million.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
