Market values Bundesliga: Haaland catches Hertha Berlin – Big drop for Coman & Sabitzer

124 players updated

Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 124 Bundesliga players, and Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland has set a new benchmark. Top Bundesliga talents Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen), Jude Bellingham (BVB), and Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich) also made significant steps in their market value development. Big names such as Kingsley Coman and Marcel Sabitzer (both Bayern) as well as Filip Kostić (Eintracht Frankfurt) have seen their market value drop.

Haaland is breaking one goal record after another and, together with Kylian Mbappé, is the most in-demand player on the planet. That is also reflected in his new market value, which has once again increased—this time by €20 million to €150 million, which is a new Bundesliga record market value. The Dortmund star is now just €10 million behind Mbappé and just the 12th player on Transfermarkt with a market value of €150 million or more. Haaland’s market value is more than half the squads in the Bundesliga—including Hertha Berlin

Bayer Leverkusen’s talent Wirtz saw his market value increase by €20 million. The 18-year-old is now one of the five most valuable German players on the planet.

“Wirtz has rocketed upon the scene, has been a crucial player for Bayer Leverkusen, and became a national team player,” market value admin Martin Freundl (Soyen) said. “The way his form has been developing, more and more top clubs will be interested and, as a result, we have increased his market value to €65 million.” Bayer Leverkusen (+€34m) and Borussia Dortmund (+€38m) are the two clubs with the biggest squad value increase.

Bellingham level with Goretzka – Coman & Sabitzer among losers

In Bellingham and Musiala, the two other Bundesliga top talents have also made significant jumps in their market value development. BVB’s Bellingham saw his market value grow from €55 million to €70 million, and he is now level with Bayern’s Leon Goretzka, whose teammate Musiala made the jump from €38 million to now €50 million.

There are, however, some significant losers in the Rekordmeister’s squad. “Coman has been missing games with three different ailments this season, and because of his consistent fitness problems and missing playing time, will become less attractive on the market in the medium-term,” Freundl said. “Consequentially, his market value drops from €65 million to €55 million.”

Sabitzer has recorded a minus of €10 million. The drop-down in value is due to the Austrian giving up his captaincy at RB Leipzig for a squad rotation role at Bayern Munich. Sabitzer’s new market value is now €32 million.

€15m drop for Kostić – Frankfurt & Gladbach with biggest downgrades

Eintracht Frankfurt‘s squad has seen a drop of €30.8 million. The main reason is Filip Kostić, who tried to push a transfer last summer.  At one point, the Serbian went on strike, trying to force Frankfurt to sell him to Lazio. Frankfurt remained steadfast and kept the winger. But with another transfer opportunity missed, Kostić drops by €15 million to now €20 million. Overall, Frankfurt’s squad remains at just over €200 million.

At Borussia Mönchengladbach the market values of starting XI players Florian Neuhaus (-€7m to €28m), Matthias Ginter (-€3m to €27m) and Nico Elvedi (-€3m to €25m) are trending down. As a result, the squad value has dropped from €300 million to now €270 million.

Among the losers of the update—of the top 50 most valuable players that have been updated, 30 saw their market value drop—is also 1899 Hoffenheim‘s Andrej Kramarić. “The downgrade from €28 million to €23 million is not just due to sporting parameters but also the experience of the summer transfer window,” Freundl said. “Kramarić belongs to the category 30-years, and older, and those players have seen a decrease in the global demand, especially if they are not involved in international club football.”

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
