Los Angeles Galaxy right-back Julian Araujo will continue his international career with El Tri. On Monday, ESPN reported that the 20-year-old native of Lompoc, California has been cleared by FIFA to make a one-time switch from the US men’s national team to the Mexican national team.
Araujo has previously been a part of the US soccer program and has made 23 appearances for the US men’s national team junior program (U16 to U23). The 20-year-old also made one appearance for the US men’s national team senior program, playing 74 minutes in a friendly against El Salvador in December 2020 (to the match report).
A dual national, Araujo was eligible to switch national team was he has yet to play a senior competitive game for the United States. Mexico faces the U.S. in their 2022 World Cup qualification group on Nov. 12 (Concacaf World Cup qualifying at a glance). Araujo is now among the ten most valuable Mexicans playing in Major League Soccer.
