Contract without exit clause

Short-term, Bayer Leverkusen do not have to worry that Florian Wirtz will leave the club. According to his father, Hans-Joachim, who is also his son’s agent, Wirtz wants to continue his development over the next two years in Leverkusen. “Florian wants to play a good role over the next two years in Leverkusen,” his father said in an interview with Bild. “Nobody knows what comes after.” The attacking midfielder is under contract until 2026 at the Werksclub, and his focus is on Bayer and the national team.

Wirtz has already played 41 Bundesliga games and has been a crucial player for his club. At 18 years and 145 days, Wirtz became the youngest player in Bundesliga history to have scored ten goals or more. Lukas Podolski previously held the record. “Florian controls the game and has an unsatisfied will both during games and at training,” Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said.
