In charge since 2018
Major League Soccer club FC Dallas have relieved head coach Luchi Gonzalez from all his duties. The club announced the decision on Sunday evening and has named director of soccer operations Marco Ferruzzi as the club’s interim coach. The club also announced that the search for a new head coach begins immediately.
“We made the tough decision to part ways with Luchi after a great deal of thought and deliberation,” FC Dallas president and owner Dan Hunt said in a club statement. “We believe a coaching change is in the best interest of the club at this time to help us achieve our goals. I want to thank Luchi for everything he has done for this organization. We wish him all the best.”
Gonzalez has been in charge for 87 games at Dallas and managed a points-per-game record of 1.32. The 41-year-old led his club to the post-season in 2019 and 2020 and has an overall record of 28-29-25. This season, however, the club has struggled and is currently seven points below the playoff line. This is the fifth coaching change in MLS already this season. Toronto FC, Atlanta United, Vancouver Whitecaps, and Real Salt Lake have previously changed their head coaches (overview).
