Multiple reports
Unlike most other European leagues, the transfer window in the Turkish Süper Lig remains open until Wednesday (overview of all leagues where the window is still open). Galatasaray continue their search for a defensive midfielder. According to media reports from England and Italy, the club now has two candidates to fill the role. One of them is now a good candidate to join the club.
Sky Sports reported on Tuesday, that the 22-times Turkish champions are interested in signing Mohamed Elneny from Arsenal. The Egyptian national team player was a useful squad player for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta last season and played 41 games (three goals) for the Gunners. But after Arsenal spent more money than any other club in the summer transfer window, his chances of playing minutes have rapidly decreased.
Highest spending in the summer of 2021: Arsenal spent €100m more than Bayern
Elneny’s contract expires next summer and this summer is the second last chance for Arsenal to receive a fee for the midfielder. Galatasaray want to exploit that opportunity and bring the 79-times national team player for a second time to Turkey. Elneny spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Besiktas. The two clubs have already made contact.
Update 22:33 BST: Sky Sports have added in an additional report that Arsenal have turned down a first offer by Galatasaray. The station did not specify the size of the first offer and whether the Turkish club will make a second offer.
Galatasaray wanted Diawara from Roma – Player not interested
According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the transfer of Amadou Diawara from Roma to Galatasaray will definitely not happen. The 24-year-old joined Roma for €21 million last summer from Napoli but failed to fill the high expectations. With a market value of €14 million, Diawara would have been the most valuable player at the Turkish club and Roma had already agreed on a deal. Diawara, however, turned down a potential transfer to Turkey.
