Return to youth club

Just one year after joining Arsenal, Willian has left the club. The Brazilian wanted to return to his academy club Corinthians and has agreed a contract termination with the Gunners. Originally under contract until 2023, Arsenal confirmed on Monday night that Willian would return to São Paulo.

Sky Sports reported that the 33-year-old would forego £20.5 million in salary, around €24 million, which he would have received over the next two years at Arsenal. Willian will earn around 70% less in Brazil.

Willian joined Arsenal from Chelsea on a free transfer in 2020. After playing 339 games for the Blues, Willian managed one goal and seven assists in 37 games for the Gunners. The Brazilian managed 16 starts, and in eight games, he did not feature at all.
