Paris Saint-Germain are set to lose Kylian Mbappé. According to various sources, the star striker has decided that he will not extend his contract that will expire next summer. Real Madrid appear to be the destination. The question remains whether the transfer will happen this summer or next summer.

Despite Mbappé’s contract expiring next summer, Real Madrid now appear willing to box through a deal this summer. According to RMC SportReal have offered €160 million for Mbappé on Tuesday. Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Tuesday that Real Madrid have made a €160 million bid and that Mbappé has now turned down a new contract at PSG three times.

Update Aug. 26.: According to a report by Sky, Real Madrid have made a second offer of €170 million for Mbappé. Le Parisien goes even further, writing on Thursday that the new offer is €180 million. Either offer would be a new record deal for Real Madrid.

French journalist Julien Laurens reported on Aug. 24 that PSG have turned down Real Madrid’s initial offer and that the Ligue 1 giants appear to be unwilling to sell the forward this summer and appear poised to turn down any future offer for the striker as well. Next summer, Mbappé could become the most valuable free agent transfer in football history.

Mbappé new record for Real Madrid? – Monaco would benefit

The rumored fees, whether they are €170m or €180m would be a new record fee for Real Madrid. But it would also be the biggest fee ever paid for a player with just one year remaining on his contract. The only player that would be more expensive in history would be Neymar. Mbappé already ranks second, PSG paid €145 million after a one-year loan deal from Monaco.

Monaco would benefit from a transfer. The club from the principality would receive an additional €35 million should Mbappé renew his contract or leave PSG before his contract expires. Real, in the meantime, are no strangers when it comes to paying a significant fee for a player with just one year left on his contract. In 2019 Los Blancos paid €115 million to Chelsea to sign Eden Hazard, who only had 12 months left on his deal.
