Following Ødegaard
Arsenal will most likely finalise two transfers with a total volume of at least €63 million shortly. In addition to Real Madrid midfielder Martin Ødegaard, who has already completed his medical and whose transfer fee could rise from €35 million to €40 million thanks to possible add-ons, Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale will also join the Gunners. According to Sky Sports, the 23-year-old will undergo his medical on Thursday.
Update: Arsenal confirmed the signing on Friday evening.
In Ramsdale, current goalkeeper Bernd Leno does not only get high-quality, but also expensive competition. Arsenal had agreed an initial transfer fee of €28 million with the Blades. Another €7 million could be due because of bonus payments, according to reports. Once these are paid, the international will overtake England’s number one Jordan Pickford (€28.5 million) and Manuel Neuer (€30 million) in the ranking of the most expensive goalkeepers in history, among others. He would then find himself alongside Thibaut Courtois and Jasper Cillessen in fifth place.
The most expensive goalkeepers in history
Sheffield had signed Ramsdale from Bournemouth for €20.5 million a year ago, his current contract runs until 2024.
