Lukaku replacement
Edin Dzeko was on the verge of a move to Inter Milan twice in recent years, and now the deal has finally been completed. The centre-forward leaves AS Roma after five years and signs with the Italian champions until 2023. There, the 35-year-old is expected to help close the gap left by record departure Romelu Lukaku (for €115 million to Chelsea).
The Bosnia international, who was already courted by the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2019 and early 2021, is expected to earn around €5.5 million to €6 million net at his new employers, not yet including bonuses, according to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio. The Romans, in turn, will receive a bonus payment of around €1.5 million if Inter qualify for the Champions League. A transfer fee will not be due despite a contract still valid for one year, as the Giallorossi prefer to save Dzeko’s €15 million gross salary in the coming season.
Roma and Inter Milan – The biggest transfers between the two clubs
Dzeko, once Bundesliga top scorer at VfL Wolfsburg and with his €37 million move to Manchester City in 2011 also the former record departure of the German club, leaves the Italian capital after 260 matches in which he recorded 119 goals and 55 assists. His scoring record makes him the third most successful attacker in Roma history. Moreover, since 2000, only nine players from the top 5 leagues, all competitions and games with the national team included, have scored more often. For Dzeko, it is the seventh different club in his career.
