The transfer of Jannik Vestergaard within the Premier League from Southampton to Leicester City is now done. Both clubs confirmed the deal on Friday. The 29-year-old signed a contract that will run until Jun. 30, 2024. The Danish national team player, whose contract at the Saints was going to expire next year, will cost £15 million (€17.6m).
As a result, Vestergaard passes Simon Kjær as the Danish player with the highest cumulative transfer in history. Overall, clubs paid €45.65 million in transfer fees for the Milan defender, Vestergaard’s overall transfer fee is now €59.6 million, which sees him move from fourth place to first place.

With Jonny Evans and Welsey Fofana injured, the Foxes were desperate to add another defender. While Evans will be out for a few weeks, Fofana will miss months with a complicated broken leg.
“I’m very happy and I’m really excited to get going. It’s a special club that has done very well over many years and I think the project is very, very exciting, even from the outside looking in,” Vestergaard said in a club statement. “To be a part of it is a big thing for me.”
After Vestergaard departure, Southampton looking for a replacement
Vestergaard was a permanent starter at Southampton last season and played in 32 games. The center-back also featured in all six of Denmark’s games at the European Championships this summer. Altogether, Vestergaard played 79 games for the Saints, who signed him for €25 million from Borussia Mönchengladbach. “He is headed to Leicester and is now up to us to find a replacement,” Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl said. One possible candidate is former Bayern talent Flavius Daniliuc from OGC Nice.
