Sørloth-dad: Leipzig departure in the summer “150% certain” – Marseille interested?

Excluded from Cup squad

It is becoming increasingly unlikely that Alexander Sørloth will remain a member of RB Leipzig’s squad beyond the summer. Sørloth’s father, Gøran, a former striker, who played in the Bundesliga for Borussia Mönchengladbach, is convinced that his son will leave the club. Speaking to the Norwegian station TV2, Gøran said that he was “150% certain” that his son will change clubs until the end of the summer.

A transfer thus far has been difficult as the player wanted to stay in Leipzig. Another problem has been the reluctance of interested clubs to meet RB’s transfer demands. That appears to have changed. Olympique Marseille have now emerged as a candidate to sign Sørloth. The Norwegian outlet Nettavisen wrote that the Ligue 1 club is interested in the striker and has already contacted the Sørloth camp.

Gøran, who is not directly involved in his son’s career planning, was unhappy about his son not being included in Leipzig’s DFB Pokal squad that faced SV Sandhausen in the first round. “The week after the season has kicked off will bring some change, I think,” Gøran said. Much will depend on whether Leipzig are willing to decrease their demands for the player. The Red Bulls want a transfer fee in the range of what the club paid last season—€20 million. Over the last season, Sørloth’s market value has dropped by €4 million to now €16 million. The striker’s contract runs until 2025.
