USMNT striker
The long-awaited transfer of Josh Sargent from Werder Bremen to Norwich City is now done. The Premier League club confirmed the transfer on Monday night. According to various media reports, Werder will receive €9.5 million for the 21-year-old US men’s national team striker. It is the sixth most expensive transfer for an American in history. The fee means Sargent just about misses out of Werder’s top 10 record departures.
“I’ve always wanted to play in the Premier League, so it’s a very exciting opportunity for me,” Sargent said in a club statement. “I heard it’s a good group of guys, and I talked with the head coach already, and I really like what they’re trying to do here. I like to think my main position is a number nine, but I am also very versatile. No matter where I play, everyone can expect that I will give my all, my 100 percent, and hopefully score some goals.”

Sargent was part of a Werder side that was relegated to 2. Bundesliga last season. The striker scored 11 goals and six assists in 70 Bundesliga games for the North Germans. This season he was quick of his mark, scoring two goals in Germany’s second division. Impacted by relegation, Sargent’s market value dropped to €8 million this season, which makes him the second most valuable US striker.
