Done deal!
As expected, the Vancouver Whitecaps have acquired German defender Florian Jungwirth from the San Jose Earthquakes. First reported by Transfermarkt on Thursday night, the ‘Caps have now made the deal official. The Quakes will receive $200,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM). The Earthquakes could also receive up to an additional $100,000 in conditional 2022 GAM.
“Florian is a player who knows the league well, and knows the Western Conference well from his time in San Jose,” Whitecaps head coach Marc Dos Santos said in a club statement. “He gives us cover in the team, and is a player who should adapt well with our group. We look forward to welcoming him in.” Added Jungwirth: “I am really glad to join this wonderful club. Everyone knows that I am a warrior and I can’t wait to fight and leave it all for you on the field.”
Jungwirth will add significant experience to the Whitecaps’ backline. The 32-year-old has played 35 games in the Bundesliga, 109 games in 2.Bundesliga. Jungwirth joined the Quakes in 2017 and has played 131 games (five goals and nine assists) for the California-based club.
