Only Havertz left for a higher fee
The transfer of Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen to Aston Villa is completed. This was officially announced by the clubs on Wednesday morning. The 23-year-old signed a contract running until 2025 with the Villans.
According to German football magazine Kicker, an initial fee of €32 million will be due for the Jamaican, who had two years left on his contract in Germany. The amount can rise to €35 million due to possible bonus payments. Bayer only received a higher fee once – when Kai Havertz joined Chelsea for €80 million last summer.
In January 2017, the winger had moved from KRC Genk to Leverkusen for €13.5 million. According to reports, the Belgians profit from a 10% sell-on clause. “Leon is a hugely exciting young striker with great pace and creativity,” Villa head coach Dean Smith said. “He has enjoyed a successful career at Leverkusen and we are now looking forward to watching him show his skills and talents for Aston Villa in the Premier League.”
