Leverkusen were interested
Promoted Premier League side Brentford have signed Kristoffer Ajer from Scottish Premiership side Celtic. The Norwegian national team player has signed a contract over five-season and according to a report by Sky Sports will cost the Bees €15.7 million. Ajer—subject to international paperwork—will become the club’s second signing. The club already signed Frank Onyeka from Midtjylland.
“Kristoffer has scouted extremely well and ticks all the boxes for what we want in a Brentford defender on and off the pitch,” Brentford director of football Rasmus Ankersen said in a club statement. “We are really pleased that he has decided to commit his future to Brentford.”
The most expensive summer transfers in 2021 – Premier League heavily involved
Ajer was previously heavily linked with a transfer to Bayer Leverkusen. Some reports have suggested that a deal was already agreed. But Celtic’s transfer demands meant that Die Werkself have moved on to other targets. Celtic have already re-invested part of the fee in the squad and have signed Carl Starfelt. The Swedish national team player joins from Russian club Rubin Kazan for €5 million.
