Record deal for both clubs
Newly-promoted Brentford have announced their first new signing for the upcoming season. Midfielder Frank Onyeka joins the west London club from FC Midtjylland. The 23-year-old has signed a contract running until 2026. Since his deal was originally valid until 2024, a transfer fee will be due for the Nigerian, which, according to Danish media reports, amounts to €10 million. He thus replaced Alexander Sörloth as the record departure at his former employers. At Brentford, Onyeka ranks at the top – but as the club’s most expensive signing.
The transfer is the third between sister clubs Brentford and Midtjylland, both owned by Englishman Matthew Benham – and the first to involve a transfer fee. “I am looking forward to getting Frank in the building. We think he is a strong addition to the squad, and we are looking forward to working with him. He is a very dynamic player,” Brentford head coach Thomas Frank said.

Onyeka fought his way up from Midtjylland’s U19s to the first team since 2016, for whom he was directly involved in 27 goals in 123 appearances. With the Danish top club, he won two league titles and the cup once.
