Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids are on the verge of earning a record transfer fee for left-back Sam Vines. According to a report by The Athletic, the 22-year-old left-back is in the final stages of completing a move to Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Royal Antwerp.
The report by The Athletic suggests that the Rapids will receive in the region of $2 million for Vines, plus performance-based add-ons and a sell-on clause. It would be a significant transfer for the MLS team. The previous record departure was midfielder Juan Ramírez, who was sold for around $700,000 to CA Talleres in 2018.
The reported fee, however, will be just below Vine’s market value. The 22-year-old, who has made eight appearances for the Rapids this season (one goal and one assist) has steadily improved his market value since 2019 from $275,000 to now $3.3 million in the latest MLS market value update.
