New long-term deal
Mexican national team player Éfrain Álvarez has signed a new long-term contract at the Los Angeles Galaxy. A product of the Galaxy Academy system, the 19-year-old committed to a new deal that will run until the end of the 2023 season. The Galaxy then have a club option for one additional year.
“Efrain is a top, young attacking talent and has an exciting future ahead of him in LA and for the Mexican National Team,” said LA Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese in a club statement. “The Galaxy are committed to fostering talent from within the academy and Efrain’s contract extension further cements that responsibility.”
Álvarez, who committed to the Mexican national team ahead of the Gold Cup, has been one of the biggest winners of the latest Major League Soccer market value update and is now ranked among the 25 most valuable players in the league. The 19-year-old, who has scored four goals and five assists in 43 games for the Galaxy, will now take up an MLS U22 Initiative roster spot.
