“Will bridge it somehow”
Despite the injuries to Lucas Hernández and Alphonso Davies, Bayern Munich will not add extra players to their defense. “To make adjustments on the transfer market because of injuries is not what we want,” director of sport Hasan Salihamidzic said in a video press conference on Tuesday. “The injuries to Davies and Hernández are short-term; it isn’t like they will be out for a half year or even a year. It is just a few weeks, and we will bridge it somehow.”
French world champion Hernández injured himself while on duty with the national team. His injured meniscus will be operated on. Davies, in the meantime, suffered a torn LCL while training with the Canadian national team ahead of the Gold Cup. According to Salihamidzic, both will return sometime in August. “Davies will need four to six weeks,” Salihamidzic said.
Bayern’s left-defense: Injuries to Hernández & Davies a chance for Richards
“We have a good squad and are well equipped on that position, with some strong competition, which is why we will start the season this way,” Salihamidzic said. The injury to the two left-backs will be an opportunity to new signing Omar Richards. He joined the club on a free transfer from Reading.
