Late change
On Saturday, Curaçao were supposed to kick off their Gold Cup campaign against El Salvador. That match, however, will be rescheduled, and the island nation will not take part in this year’s edition of the Gold Cup.
Concacaf announced on Friday afternoon that the Curaçao delegation returned a significant number of positive COVID-19 tests across players and staff. Although several players and staff also tested negative, state guidelines require them to isolate as they were in close contact with those that tested positive.
“Concacaf and the Curacao Football Federation have made every effort to find a solution that would enable Curaçao to compete; however, the health and safety of the Curaçao players and staff, and all participants in the tournament, must be prioritized,” a statement by Concacaf read. As a result, Guatemala will replace Cuaraçao. The first game against El Salvador will now take place on Sunday, July 11.
