Returns to Bayern
Canadian men’s national team star Alphonso Davies will miss the upcoming Gold Cup. Canada Soccer confirmed on Friday that the 20-year-old has sustained an ankle injury in training. Davies will return to Bayern Munich to prepare for the 2021/22 Bundesliga season.
Losing Davies will be a major blow for both Canada and Gold Cup organizers, however. The 20-year-old is the most valuable player in CONCACAF. The left-back also makes up half of Canada’s current squad value. Canada had the second most valuable squad at the tournament but without Davies will drop to fourth place behind Mexico, Jamaica, and the United States (click here for more).
