Ange Postecoglou has refuted suggestions that he might change his tactical plan when Tottenham face Manchester City.

Spurs have been a breath of fresh air in the Premier League this term with the former Celtic boss setting his team up to play a positive, proactive style of play that gets fans on the edge of their seats.

As well as being of the most entertaining sides to watch in the league, Postecoglou’s approach has got Tottenham into fifth spot in the table and more crucially, got supporters eating out of the palm of his hands.

But their all-out-attack style has come back to bite them in recent games and Tottenham face another big test against Pep Guardiola‘s treble-winners on Sunday afternoon.

However, responding to a reporter’s question about his tactical approach, Postecoglou delivered a typically dry response.

Asked if he’ll take a more defensive approach against Man City, the Aussie coach replied: “If you had to take a punt, what do you reckon I’d say? Just a wild guess.

“I don’t want to be flippant about it. And I get the question. But I don’t do what I do because I’m trying to prove a point.

“You look at the top teams and there’s one common trademark amongst them – they’ve all got a plan, they invest in that plan, and they stick to it.

“They don’t shy away from that at the first difficulty. Whether it is City or Arsenal or Liverpool. They’ve got a plan and they stick to it. You have to.

“Whatever you believe in, whatever you really strongly believe in, you as a person, it only gets tested in the toughest of times. It doesn’t get tested when things are going well.”

Tottenham will have 11 players missing for the clash with Man City but, according to Postecoglu, it’s moments like this that really show their footballing philosophy.

He said: “For me these are the important times because this will show what kind of football team we want to be.

“You’re either going to be a club that tries to knock off the big clubs or you are a big club. You’re one or the other. My hope and my ambition is to make this a big club.

“To do that, you have to be successful, you have to win things. To win things you’ve got to have a plan and you’ve got to stick to it and you’ve got to believe in it.

“I’m not going there to show people, ‘You watch me, I’m going to take it on’. It’s because I think that is the way forward for us.”
