Roman Bürki set to join St. Louis City SC – BVB keeper rejected Bayern offer

Major League Soccer expansion side St. Louis City SC are in advanced talks to sign Roman Bürki Transfermarkt has learned. Sources with direct knowledge of the situation have told Transfermarkt that the Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper in principle has agreed on a move to St. Louis City. Bürki is under contract until the summer of 2023 but has lost his starting position to new goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and Dortmund are more than willing to let the player leave on a free transfer. 

Once completed the transfer will be a major cornerstone for the latest MLS franchise. Bürki had offers from Bayern Munich, Aston Villa, Galatasaray, Valencia, and one club from Serie A. Furthermore, Bürki, who earns a reported €6 million a season in Dortmund will not be a Designated Player but signed to a Targeted Allocation Money (TAM). The 31-year-old goalkeeper is intrigued by the possibility of playing in the United States and agreed on a deal significantly under his current salary at the German Bundesliga club. 

Bürki will add significant experience to the MLS club. A former Swiss national team goalkeeper, the 31-year-old has featured in 232 Bundesliga games (83 clean sheets).
