Laimer won’t be released

Whether Christopher Nkunku will renew his contract at the Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig will be dependent on the club’s sporting situation. According to the Deutschen Presse-Agentur, the French national team player will only renew his contract, which is set to expire on June 30, 2024, by one further year if RB Leipzig qualify for the Champions League this season. Sport Bild also reported.

Leipzig are currently fourth in the Bundesliga standings and can qualify for the Champions League with a win or a draw over Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday (to the league table). It is expected that Nkunku’s new contract will include an exit clause that can be activated in 2023, and the winger would be allowed to leave the Red Bulls for €65 million. L’Équipe recently reported that Nkunku wants to leave the club this summer to make the next step in his career. The French paper claims the winger has told teammates that he wants to leave the club. The 24-year-old wants to play at the highest level.

In order to convince him to stay, RB Leipzig now plan to make Nkunku the cornerstone of an ambitious project that is supposed to see the club no longer being labeled as a stepping-stone club but a team seriously challenging for the league title. The club is expected to significantly invest in the summer to build a strong team around Nkunku. The new contract will see Nkunku increase his salary significantly.

Konrad Laimer will have to stay – Bayern Munich and Dortmund interested

Sport Bild further reported that Leipzig will not allow Konrad Laimer to leave the club this summer even if the Austrian does not renew his contract that is set to expire in 2023. Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are interested but will have to trigger the Austrian’s exit clause, understood to be €40 million.
