For around €50m
One of the biggest transfers of the January window is done. Anthony Gordon leaves his academy club Everton to join Newcastle United. The winger, who was under contract until 2025, will cost £40 million (€45.6m) plus another £5m (€5.7m) in performance-based add-ons. Only Mykhaylo Mudryk to Chelsea was more expensive this winter.
Only Alexander Isak was more expensive at the newly rich Newcastle United. Everton, in the meantime, have only received more money for three other players. The Gordon transfer increases Newcastle’s investment this winter to €45.95m, the third most among any club in the World. Newcastle did not reveal the length of the contract but stated that he has signed a long-term deal.
“Since I heard of the interest, I was always convinced Newcastle were for me,” Gordon said in a club statement. “I think the fan base and the City really suits me as a person, the way the team are playing under the gaffer at the minute really suits me, and the club just look like they’re heading in the right direction. I feel like it’s a really big step. People haven’t seen what I’m capable of yet. I think under the gaffer, and the way the club’s going, I can really excel here.”

Gordon to Newcastle United – Everton product a “top talent”
Manager Eddie Howe was also delighted about the transfer. “I’m delighted to sign Anthony—he’s a top, top talent,” Howe said in a club statement. “I’m really excited to work with him, to develop him, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in a Newcastle shirt.”

Gordon’s rise in market value has been remarkable. The winger only established himself in Premier League last year and has scored just seven goals and eight assists in 78 games for Everton. Interest from the likes of Chelsea, however, meant that his market value has steadily grown from just €8m two years ago to now €40m—very close to the fee Newcastle ultimately paid for him.
