Update 1. HNL

Transfermarkt has completely updated the market values of Croatia’s first division the 1.HNL. Champions Dinamo Zagreb—together with NK Istra 1961—are one of two teams to lose in squad value. The team from the capital have dropped by 2.6% but with a squad value of €94.9 million still have the most valuable squad in the entire league.

While Luka Ivanusec retains his market value (€12.5m) and remains the most valuable player in the league, his teammate Josip Sutalo managed to move up by one position. The center-back received an increase of €3 million to reach a new career-high of €8 million—only three players, all playing for Dinamo, have a higher market value. Alongside Ivanusec, Mislav Orsic and Dominik Livakovic complete the top three of the most valuable 1.HNL players.

Just as was the case in the last update, the two Croatian national team players see their market value drop once again. Orsic drops by €1 million to €10 million and Livakovic dropped by €1.5 million to €8.5 million. For the first time since 2019, the goalkeeper, who was recently a backup at the national team has a single-digit market value.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
