Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 200 Canadian Premier League players, and there has been some movement at the very top. Currently injured João Morelli (HFX Wanderers) remains first with a market value of $495,000. Out for the rest of the season, the Brazilian, however, is joined by Pacific FC star striker Alejandro Díaz at the very top of the ranking.
The Mexican striker leads the league with six goals in 9 games. By the time of writing, the 26-year-old has scored every 115 minutes this season and is one of the main reasons for Pacific FC’s continued success—the league champions once again sit comfortably at the very top of the standings. For Díaz, it is a new personal record; the 26-year-old’s highest market value to this date was $440,000 (to his market value development).
Díaz is not the only Pacific FC player to see his market value improve. Defender Amer Didic has filled the hole left by Lukas MacNaughton (now Toronto FC) and has become one of the best defenders in the league. Signed from FC Edmonton ahead of the season, Didic sees his market value grow by 133.3% to now $385,000, which ranks him the most valuable center-back in the league together with Cavalry FC’s Karifa Yao (+$55,000 to $385,000). Other Pacific FC players that stood out were Gianni Dos Santos (+$55,000 to $275,000) and Manny Aparicio (+$82,500 to $275,000).

Talents De Rosario and Rea on the up – Campbell fails to make the jump
Away from Pacific FC, young talent, in particular, stood out. The son of Canadian men’s national team legend Dwayne De Rosario, Osaze De Rosario has adapted well to the league after spectacularly leaving war-torn Ukraine to join York United from Rukh Lviv. The 20-year-old has scored three goals and one assist since joining the CPL and sees his market value improve by 200% to now $330,000.
Another young Canadian men’s national team eligible player, who has stood out is Valour FC’s Sean Rea. On loan from Major League Soccer side CF Montréal, the 20-year-old has made the most of his time in the CPL this season, scoring two goals and three assists in six games for Valour FC. On his current trajectory, Rea could become a decent replacement for US men’s national team player Djordje Mihailovic, who could leave Montréal for Europe this summer.
A player who was expected to make a move to a bigger league was Terran Campbell. The former Pacific FC forward joined league rivals Forge FC in the offseason, where he has shown mixed performances. Despite the opportunity of playing Concacaf Champions League football, a league internal move surprised many observers that thought that there would be a good market for the 24-year-old in a more competitive league. As a result, Campbell’s value has been slightly adjusted downwards from $385,000 to now $330,000. The forward, however, remains in the top 10 of most valuable CPL players.
