Bundesliga - All new market values at a glance

“It is no secret that clubs are interested in me,” RB Leipzig’s Nkunku has recently said to Telefoot—no surprise given his output: 55 goal involvements in 51 games make him the most productive player behind Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, and Kylian Mbappé. In terms of market value, the Frenchman jumps from €65 million to €80 million. As of July 1, Nkunku will become the most valuable forward in the Bundesliga.

Overview
In Erling Haaland, Borussia Dortmund will have the most valuable Bundesliga player in their squad, at least until June 30—the Norwegian officially joins Manchester City the next day. Haaland remains at €150 million. His current teammate Bellingham will receive an upgrade of €5 million and now has a market value of €80 million. But altogether, Dortmund’s squad drops €22.1 million in squad value (4%) to now €538 million. A big part of that drop goes belongs to Giovanni Reyna (-€7m to €35m) and Raphaël Guerreiro (-€10m to €25m).

10 players drop
All new Bayern market values
Overview
Bayern Munich see their squad value drop by €35 million to now €770 million. “The big drop in market value can be explained by the fact that several players were already at a very high market value level and their performances were not improved enough and in some cases even stagnated,” market value admin Martin Freundl (Soyen) said when asked why Bayern players saw their market values decrease despite winning a tenth German title in a row. “In Müller and Lewandowski, two players saw their market values drop due to their age, and only Jamal Musiala developed positively among young players.”

While Musiala (+€10m to €65m) is the biggest winner after Nkunku, Bayern, alongside Joshua Kimmich (-€5m to €80m), also have the player with the most significant drop in their squad: Leroy Sané.

“Sané is far behind the expectations placed in him and has now struggled a second season in a row to find the sort of consistency expected in him,” market value expert Freundl said. “Especially, during the second half of the season, we saw the same sort of patterns that we became familiar with last season—they completely overshadowed the positive trend from the first half of the season. Scorer points paint over some of his poorer performances, and he hasn’t scored or given an assist in the Bundesliga since February. As a result, his market value drops by €10 million to now €60 million.”

Despite Bayern’s drop in squad value, there is still an enormous gap with other Bundesliga teams. One example are Union Berlin, die Eisernen have the most considerable squad value increase of any team in the league but with a plus of €9.1 million to €82.1 million are still far behind Bayern. The biggest winner is Taiwo Awoniyi. “Thanks to his 20 goals and his dynamic play, many financially powerful clubs from the Premier League are interested in the forward,” Freundl said. “As a result of his development, his market value increased by €5 million to now €20 million.” It is the highest market value in Union Berlin’s history.

Eintracht Frankfurt are still somewhat removed from their highest-ever squad value—€290 million in 2019. But die Adler are one of the biggest winners of the Bundesliga update. The Europa League winners had 11 players receive an upgrade in market value, which saw the overall squad value grow by €25 million to now €224 million.

Overview
Evan Ndicka (+€4m to €34m), Filip Kostic (+€4m to €24m), Djibril Sow (+€4.5m to €22m), and Ansgar Knauff received new market value. The latter was loaned from Dortmund last January and the winger doubled his market value from €5 million to now €10 million.

While Dortmund will see Knauf return in 2023, another winger in Black and Yellow has significantly increased: Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. The 17-year-old was signed in 2020 from Manchester City’s academy and received a starting market value of €4 million. “He is the next big Dortmund talent, who will be integrated into the Bundesliga squad,” market value admin Julius Weißenstein (Savarez03) said. “Injured at the start of the season, he was a crucial player for the U19 and scored a brace against Manchester United in the round of 16 of the UEFA Youth League. He has since made his debut in the Bundesliga and helped beat Hertha Berlin in the U19 German championship final.”

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
