Kahn dismisses rumour

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has poured cold water over rumours linking Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo with a move to the Bundesliga giants this summer. The Portugal international is desperate to depart Old Trafford this summer according to reports in England and numerous outlets, including sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, have suggested that Bayern may be an ideal destination for the 37-year-old star.

However, while Kahn couldn’t deny that Ronaldo was still an exquisite talent – undoubtedly showcased through his 24 goals in 38 games for the Red Devils last season – the Bayern boss was also quick to rule out a move for the player this summer. “As much as I appreciate Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the greatest, a transfer would not fit into our philosophy,” said Kahn on Wednesday in an interview with Kicker.

Bayern out of the race for Ronaldo – Chelsea still interested?

Undoubtedly, the temptation to link Ronaldo with a move to Bayern has been born out of another transfer story involving Bayern’s key striker Robert Lewandowski. As reports in Germany suggest, the Poland international is still patiently waiting on Barcelona to match Bayern’s €50 million evaluation of the player, before accepting an offer for the talisman. And, should such an offer arrive, Bayern may be in need of a new No.9. However, according to Kahn, that new striker will not be Ronaldo.

With Bayern now ruled out of the race to sign the Portuguese star, attention will now turn to Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea are seemingly the last remaining party interested in making a move for the forward. According to the Guardian, such a move will depend on whether Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel feels as though he can fit the senior star into his new-look team, which will undoubtedly be getting some much-needed reinforcements this summer, following the club’s takeover by new owners a few months ago.
