Most valuable PSV player
With a market value of €22 million, Cody Gakpo is PSV Eindhoven’s most valuable player and, on top of that, the most important attacker in head coach Roger Schmidt’s team with 22 goal contributions in 28 appearances this season. Due to his performances, the 22-year-old has played himself onto the radar of bigger clubs abroad, according to media reports in the Netherlands. Liverpool and Manchester City are said to be interested in Gakpo, who has also been linked with Bayern Munich since last summer.
The entourage of the Dutch international has reportedly held talks with the English top clubs, who are said to be showing “more than serious interest”. The German record titleholders are also said to be taking a more concrete approach now. Meanwhile, the magazine Voetbal International speculates about a possible PSV record sale – so far, Hirving Lozano is the most expensive departure, when he joined Napoli for €35 million in 2019.

Homegrown winger Gakpo has a contract running until 2025 with his youth club, which could be extended by a further year – a fact that would further push up a possible transfer fee. “It looks like I’ll extend my contract,” Gakpo said after the 2-1 defeat to Ajax. “I’m also aware of the clubs that want me, I’ve talked about it with my agent. There are very interesting clubs, but we have to see what is the first step,” the right-footed forward said. For the moment, however, his focus is not on this matter.
Instead, the attacker reportedly wants to stay in his hometown at least in the current winter transfer window. Whether Gakpo will be playing in Eindhoven in the long term is questionable, as he is almost impossible for his club to keep beyond next summer, according to Eindhovens Dagblad.
