Juventus have signed central defender Gleison Bremer from Torino, after the Brazil international completed his medical at the club on Wednesday morning. The 25-year-old defender has signed a five-year deal and has made the move to the Serie A giants in a deal worth an initial €41 million, plus add-ons which would make him the club’s joint eighth most expensive signing, alongside Paulo Dybala from Palermo in 2015. And the largest transfer fee paid by a Serie A side in this summer’s transfer window.

The deal is also the highest fee Torino have ever received for a player, surpassing the €25m they received from Chelsea for Davide Zappacosta in 2017 and suggests the Italian club will make a handsome profit from the defender they signed for just €5.8m in 2018 from Brazilian club Atlético-MG. Since then, the player’s market value has shot up from just €1m to the €35m value he has today.

Despite the impressive transfer fee Bremer has demanded from Juventus, the 25-year-old will now have some work to do in order to prove that he is not only capable of making the step up from mid-table obscurity to a team that demands excellence and will be hoping to challenge for major trophies in Italy and Europe. As well as that, Bremer also makes the move to Juve as a direct replacement for the once highly-regarded Matthijs de Ligt, who the Italian giants decided to sell on to Bayern Munich this week for €67m.
