Move to Iran
After the end of his six-month spell with VfL Bochum, Jürgen Locadia could have stayed in the Bundesliga, but reportedly turned down an offer to remain at the German club. Instead, the 28-year-old striker will leave Europe and move to Iran. Persian Gulf Pro League side Persepolis FC announced the signing of the Dutchman on Friday.
Locadia joined Brighton for €17 million from PSV Eindhoven in January 2018, making him the Premier League club’s record signing at that point. He was quickly surpassed in this ranking, when Alireza Jahanbakhsh left AZ Alkmaar for the English south coast for €19 million only six months later, a move which made the winger the most expensive Iranian in history.
During his rather unsuccessful spell in England, Locadia has left the Seagulls on loan twice, once to German club Hoffenheim and once to MLS side Cincinnati, before joining Bochum permanently in January. The tall centre-forward signs a one-year deal with Persepolis and arrives as a free agent. Ahead of Iranian duo Alireza Beiranvand and Mehdi Torabi (both valued at €1 million), Locadia becomes the most valuable player in the Tehran-based club’s squad.
