Long-term deal

Arsenal center-back Gabriel Magalhães has signed a new long-term contract. Although the club did not report the length of the new deal, sources have told CBS Sports and The Guardian that the new deal will run until 2027. Gabriel joined Arsenal for €26 million from Lille in 2020 and has scored nine goals and one assist in 83 games across all competitions for the North London side.

“It’s great that we’ve agreed a new deal with Gabi, Arsenal technical director Edu said in a club statement. “At 24, he’s still a young player and is part of our future. His performances since he joined us in 2020 have been very strong and his positive impact to our results have been clear for everyone to see. He has grown so much on and off the pitch, with both his contribution and communication on and off the pitch. We all look forward to see Gabi continue to grow as an important part of our club.”

This season Gabriel has been in excellent form for Arsenal and is a major reason for the club ranking four points ahead of second-placed Man City in the Premier League standings. Furthermore, being a left-footed defender makes the Brazilian national team player a rare commodity among world-class center-backs and one of Arsenal’s most expensive signings in club history, has become a great investment by the club.

New Arsenal contract – Arteta: Gabriel “hugely important to us”

“Gabi has shown huge qualities since he joined us,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said. “He is a young player with a great work ethic and his consistent strong performances have been hugely important to us over the past two seasons. Working with Gabi every day is a pleasure, he has formed strong relationships with everyone at the club and we’re so pleased that he has committed to us on a long-term contract.”
