Spurs spending spree

Tottenham Hotspur look set to continue their summer spending spree, with reports in England indicating that the club are on the verge of signing Everton forward Richarlison, as well as picking up Barcelona central defender Clement Lenglet on loan. Which would put the club’s new signings for the off-season at no less than five first team players for Antonio Conte’s side. According to Football London, Spur are hopeful of agreeing a fee with their Merseyside counterparts in the next 24 hours, which could end up costing the club around £50 million (€58m) for Richarlison’s signature. If so, it would make the Brazil international Tottenham’s second most expensive signing, following Tanguy Ndombélé’s €60m move from Lyon in 2019.

It’ll come as no great surprise to fans of the English top-flight to see Richarlison move on from relegation-threatened Everton, following five seasons at the club in which the 25-year-old talent has proved himself as a consistent performer in the Premier League. Over the course of 173 league games for Watford and then Everton, the forward has bagged 48 goals and 18 assists, which has led to the player being linked with moves to Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and even Chelsea. However, it seems as though Tottenham may have beaten all others to his signature.

However, it seems as though Tottenham’s rebuild under Conte won’t end with just the signing of an exciting forward. According to Sky Sports, the English side are also hoping to secure a move for Barca defender Lenglet on a season-long loan deal. Despite being linked with moves for a number of defenders, it seems as though Spurs have settled on a quick-fix by hoping to take on the French defender, who has struggled to live up to the billing in Spain since joining Barca in 2018 from Sevilla for €36m.
