Arrives from Watford
Major League Soccer club Columbus Crew are set to announce the arrival of Colombian forward Cucho Hernández from relegated Premier League side Watford for a club-record $10-10.5 million. First reported by Massive Report last week, the Columbus Dispatch reported on Monday that Hernández has completed his medical and signed a contract until 2025 with the MLS club. The Crew are expected to announce the deal as early as Tuesday.
The Hernández deal is significant. The 23-year-old will become the most expensive transfer in Columbus Crew history—breaking a record set by Lucas Zelarayán in 2020—and rank among the ten most expensive transfers in MLS history. The Columbus Dispatch also reported that Hernández will make $3.7 million a season—the same amount as Zelarayan—and will be a Young Designated Player (DP).

Hernández originally joined Watford from his youth club Pereira in 2017. After spending several seasons out on loan, the now 23-year-old spent the 2021/22 season with Watford scoring five goals and two assists in 25 Premier League games. Once the transfer is completed, Hernández will become one of the ten most expensive departures in Watford’s history (overview).
