Loan-to-buy deal

Cole Bassett has officially joined Dutch Eredivisie giants Feyenoord from Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids. The Rapids made the deal official on Thursday afternoon. Bassett will join Feyenoord on an 18-month loan deal with an option to buy. Transfermarkt understands that that fee would comfortably break the Rapdis’ previous record fee of $2 million received for Sam Vines last summer from Belgian side Royal Antwerp (overview). The Rapids will also receive a percentage of any future transfer fee.

“We’re incredibly proud of Cole for having earned this opportunity to pursue his dream of playing in Europe,” Colorado Rapids general manager Pádraig Smith said in a club statement. “It’s a testament to his talent, his performances here with the Rapids, and his dedication to continually improve as a player. This move also reflects our steadfast commitment to develop young players and provide a pathway to the highest levels of the game. We look forward to seeing Cole’s continued growth and wish him all the best as he takes this next step in his career.

In Bassett, the Rapids are losing one of the club’s biggest stars. The 20-year-old scored 13 goals and nine assists in 75 games across all competitions and steadily saw his market value improve to $6.6 million, which made him the most valuable player on the squad and one of the 25 most valuable US men’s national team players on the planet.
