Arsenal and Man Utd insterested
While the World turns its attention towards the coming World Cup in Qatar, football clubs around Europe will instead spend their much-needed time off to prepare for the coming January transfer window by writing up shortlists of the most sought-after players. And in many ways, no player in European football seems to have garnered as many admirers as Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.
So far this season, the 21-year-old has been nothing short of remarkable for the Ukrainian club, scoring eight goals and bagging a further eight assists in 16 games across all competitions. However, it has been the winger’s three goals and two assists in six Champions League games – most notably in the opening game of Group F against RB Leipzig when the player scored one and assisted two more – that has led to Mudryk being linked to some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
The most expensive Premier League signings in the summer of 2022
Indeed, so far this season the young star has been linked with moves to Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United. While The Athletic report that Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are also monitoring the young player’s current situation. And, as such, the publication claims that Shakhtar will demand no less than €100 million for the player when he eventually leaves the club.
Although, despite clearly having clear ambitions to play at a higher level, the player has since revealed that he was rather put off by the astronomical asking price from his own club. “When I found out about my price, I wasn’t just surprised – I was shocked,” said Mudryk in an interview with Sport Arena. “I have a long-term contract with Shakhtar [set to expire in December 2026], I give all my strength and energy so that Shakhtar achieves maximum results,” noted the winger. “But I am 100% sure that they are unlikely to buy a player from the championship of Ukraine for €100 million… I will not hide that I was very upset. The amount of €100 million puts a barrier for my transition to the top championship, which I so dreamed of. I can’t say that my dream was killed, but wounded – that’s for sure.”

From €20m to €59m? Putting an asking price on Mudryk in January
While the so-called asking price for the player may be little more than a bargaining ploy by the Ukrainian club, the question remains as to how much Mudryk is actually worth and what he will cost the next club that wants to print his name on the back of their shirts. So how much is the winger likely to cost in the next transfer window?

First, we must consider how much Shakhtar have already rejected for the player. In the summer, Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen offered €20m for the young talent. According to sources at the club, Transfermarkt understands that the Ukrainian side did initially accept the offer for Mudryk, but then rejected it at a later date after trying to get the German side to pay more for the young winger. Leverkusen were unwilling to budge on their offer and so the deal fell through.
Considering the form Mudryk has shown since that ordeal and the fact that the club are used to selling key players to the Premier League for as much as €59m, it’s probably fair to say that not only will Shakhtar be looking to improve upon that €20m but will likely do so by hoping to at least double that asking price before they’re willing to sit down at the negotiating table. As such, while the young Ukrainian player is currently valued at €15m, that figure will drastically improve in the next Premier Liga market value update before the end of the year.
