Both clubs confirm

Arsenal have signed Fábio Vieira from Porto. After the Portuguese club confirmed a transfer agreement on Friday morning, Arsenal also confirmed the deal on Tuesday. Porto will receive €35 million, plus €5 million in performance-based bonuses. Vieira becomes one of the ten most expensive outgoing transfers in Porto’s club history (overview).
”I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said in a club statement. Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play. We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season.”
For Arsenal, the Vieira deal is just the beginning of a busy transfer summer that could also see the arrival of Youri Tielemans (Leicester City) and Gabriel Jesus (Man City). As for Vieira, this summer only Aurélien Tchouameni (from Monaco to Real Madrid), Darwin Núñez (from Benfica to Liverpool), and Erling Haaland (from Dortmund to Man City) were more expensive. The 22-year-old managed to become a star for Porto during the second half of the season. A flexible attacking midfielder, Vieira was mostly an off-the-bench player during the first half of the season before finally achieving his breakthrough after the winter.

CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs pointed out on Friday that the deals are independent of one another. Furthermore, the Gunners continue their chase to sign Manchester City winger Gabriel Jesus. Hence, Vieira is just the beginning for Arsenal manager Arteta as the Spaniard is looking to guide the club back into the Premier League top four.
