Announcement on the weekend?

Lionel Messi will join Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentine, whose contract renewal with Barcelona collapsed on Thursday, has now decided he will join PSG instead. Former RMC Sport reporter Mohamed Bouhafsi was the first to report the news on Friday. The deal is now all but confirmed.

Talks between Messi and PSG have taken place until late into the night. Those talks ended with the Messi-camp agreeing to a two-year contract with an option for one additional year. Messi’s father will meet with the club to get a clearer picture. PSG want to announce the transfer on the weekend.

Messi transfer – Neymar played a major role

Former Barcelona teammate Neymar was also heavily involved in the negotiations. The two played together from 2013 to 2017 and remain close friends. According to French reports, Neymar has offered his number 10 to Messi. The Brazilian received the number when he joined the club four years ago. Messi, however, has turned down the offer and will instead wear the number 19, which he wore at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
