Only Joelinton was more expensive
Up until this point, Arsenal have spent significant money on the transfer market without bringing in fresh cash. Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares cost the Gunners €84 million. Now the club has finally cut its transfer deficit. After being on loan at Newcastle United, academy player Joe Willock leaves the club permanently and signs a long-term agreement with the Magpies.
Newcastle did not reveal the length of the deal or the transfer fee. But according to Sky Sports, the fee was in the region of €30 million, plus performance-based bonuses. As a result, Arsenal reduce their transfer deficit by 35% and receive the eighth highest fee in club history. Willock becomes the second most expensive signing in Newcastle history behind Joelinton, who joined the club from Hoffenheim for €44 million in 2019/20.

Born in London, the central midfielder has been developed by Arsenal and was a member of the club since 2004. Willock spent February to May on loan at Newcastle and scored eight goals in 14 games.
