Your captain scores double points. That single decision accounts for roughly 25-30% of your total FPL score over a season. Getting it right consistently is the fastest path to mini-league glory.
The Mathematics
If your captain averages 8 points per gameweek, that is 16 points doubled — contributing around 608 points over 38 gameweeks. Improving your captain average by just 1 point per week adds 76 points to your season total.
That is the difference between a top 100k finish and a top 1 million finish for most managers.
Form vs Fixtures
The eternal debate. A player in brilliant form facing a tough fixture, or an average player with an easy home match? The data suggests fixtures matter more for defenders and midfielders, while elite strikers can score against anyone.
Use the Captain Impact tool on FPL360 to see how different captaincy choices would have affected your gameweek score historically.
Differential Captaincy
In mini-leagues, a differential captain can swing an entire gameweek. If everyone in your league is captaining Haaland but you captain a player who outscores him, you gain double the points difference against every rival.
But do not be differential for the sake of it. Your captain should always be your highest-expected-points player for the gameweek. Check the Fixture Difficulty tool and Stats page before deciding.
Good luck with your captaincy this weekend!
