FPL price changes can make or break your season. Understanding how they work gives you an edge over managers who react too late — or too early.
The Algorithm
Price changes happen overnight based on net transfer activity. When enough managers transfer a player in, their price rises by £0.1m. When enough transfer them out, the price drops.
The exact threshold is not published by FPL, but it scales based on the player’s current ownership. Higher-owned players need more transfers to trigger a change.
Why It Matters
Squad value compounds over the season. A player who rises £0.5m in value effectively gives you an extra £0.2m to spend elsewhere (you only receive half the profit when selling). Over a full season, smart managers can build an extra £2-3m in team value.

Timing Your Transfers
If a player you want is rising tonight, you need to act before the deadline. But if they are stable, wait for maximum injury information closer to the gameweek deadline.
Price Drops and Knee-Jerks
Never sell a player purely because their price is falling. That is a classic knee-jerk reaction. Sell based on fixtures, form, and expected points — not the market. The best FPL managers are patient and data-driven.
