Fixture difficulty is one of the most important tools in any FPL manager’s arsenal. Understanding how it works — and its limitations — can transform your decision-making.
How FDR Works
The official FPL Fixture Difficulty Rating (FDR) ranks each fixture from 1 (easiest) to 5 (hardest) based on the opponent’s strength. A rating of 2 means a very favourable home fixture, while 5 indicates a trip to one of the league’s strongest sides.
Looking Beyond the Numbers
Raw FDR does not tell the whole story. A team rated 3 at the start of the season might be playing like a 5 by January due to improved form. Similarly, a historically strong side going through a poor patch might be rated 4 when they are actually easier to face.
That is why the FPL360 Fixture Difficulty tool combines FDR with recent form data to give you a more accurate picture.
Planning Ahead
The real power of fixture difficulty comes from looking 5-6 gameweeks ahead. When you can identify a run of green fixtures for a particular team, you can bring in their key assets before prices rise.
Captaincy Decisions
Your captain plays the easiest fixture. It sounds simple, but many managers overthink it. Check the Captain Impact tool to see how much a good captaincy decision is worth over a season.
