Fenerbahce have turned down the chance to sign Marcus Rashford this month, with the Manchester United forward’s future remaining extremely uncertain.
Rashford hasn’t played for United since 7 December and has only been named in a matchday squad once in the almost eight weeks since. Ruben Amorim hasn’t been impressed with the 27-year-old’s training performances and is refusing to back down until he sees more.
Rashford remains heavily linked with an exit, but AC Milan have focused their recruitment in other areas and Barcelona cannot add new players without offloading others first. There have also now been links with Fenerbahce, where ex-United boss Jose Mourinho is currently head coach.
Fenerbahce vice-president Acun Ilicali has confirmed that an opportunity to sign Rashford did arise, but insists the Turkish club have no interest in pursuing a deal.
“It was in the news that we are interested in him. I think Rashford is a fantastic player, I really like him. When it came in front of us, unfortunately we said no for this transfer,” Ilicali told Sky Sports.
“There is nothing that we are interested in him. Of course, there are some RUMOURS that spread. I can say very comfortably that we are not interested, but he is a good player.”
Former United defender Rio Ferdinand expressed concern earlier this week that there is “no way back” for Rashford at Old Trafford following a scathing explanation of his absence from Amorim.
Fellow legend Paul Scholes suggested that Rashford has “let a lot of people down with his attitude”, not setting the correct example as one of the squad’s senior players.
It has even been reported that communication between Amorim and Rashford has now been reduced to wider conversations with the whole group, and no direct contact between the pair.
