Liga BBVA MX update
Transfermarkt has completed an intermediary update of the market values in the Mexican Liga BBVA MX. Around 250 player profiles have been overhauled, with some of those discussed in the market value analysis for the first time. Although the two most valuable players, Carlos Rodríguez of Cruz Azul and Florian Thauvin of Tigres, were both downgraded in this update, the French winger remains at the top of the league-wide market value rankings.
Meanwhile, several players who are part of Gerardo Martino’s national team have seen their market value increase, including América’s Emilio Lara, Erick Sánchez of Pachuca and Chivas forward Alexis Vega. The latter, like Rodríguez, are among the most valuable Mexicans in the league.
Thauvin, Vega & Co. – The most valuable Liga MX players
The fierce competition for a place in the squad for the World Cup in Qatar was reflected in the market value of a number of players. Henry Martín and Lara of CF América, for example, have both made a name for themselves with convincing performances and have also become leaders in the national team. Martín was the top scorer in Liga MX and had the best stats of his career to date. As a result, his market value was adjusted upward to €4.5 million, a personal career high, which he had last reached a year ago. Lara finally fulfilled his potential after Jorge Sánchez left for Ajax, pushing his value up to €1.5 million.

In addition, two other upgrades stand out: Déportivo’s Jesús Orozco Chiquete was part of one of the best defences in the league and doubled his market value, while teammate Vega saw his value rise by another €0.5 million to now €8 million. The left winger is linked with a possible move to Europe.
CF Pachuca’s successful year, with talents from their own academy as key players of the team under head coach Guillermo Almada’s leadership, was also reflected in the update, with Kevin Álvarez, Luis Chávez (both +€1m to €6m) and Sánchez (+€1.5m to €8m) all seeing their value increase. Álvaro Fidalgo (+€2m to €6m), Rodrigo Aguirre (+€2.5m to €4.5m), Nicolás Ibáñez (+€1.5m to €7.5m) and Valber Huerta (+€1.5m to €2m) were also upgraded.
Meanwhile, some players from Cruz Azul and Club León, who recently struggled in the league, had to accept devaluations: The Skyblues fired head coach Diego Aguirre after their disastrous start to the season, and a total of six players in the squad had to accept a downgrade, including Rodríguez (-€2m to €8m), Luis Abram (-€2m to €4m) and Ángel Romero (-€2.5m to €2.5m).
Market values Mexico: Thauvin among high-profile players downgraded
Yairo Moreno (-€2.5m to €4.5m) is currently out of form and, just like Liga MX MVP Thauvin, is devaluated again. The latter lost another €2 million and now stands at €10 million. When he moved to Mexico from Marseille last summer, he had still been valued at €17 million. Other notable devaluations include Carlos González (-€2m to €3m), Luis Rodríguez (-€0.8m to €1.2m), Rogelio Funes Mori (-€0.5m to €4m) and Darwin Machís (-€2m to €4m).
